My 2CP on Christofer Sundberg’s view of DRM

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Gingir gives her random thoughts on DRM.

I was reading Game Politics coverage of Christofer Sundberg’s opinion on DRM this morning. I cannot help but think that Mr. Sundberg is correct in his view that DRM only punishes those who bought the game legally. His more exact words were, “The DRM does not stop piracy," he said, "it just punishes the people who have actually paid for the game. It's completely useless. Forcing people to be online all the time and so on doesn't show respect to the people who actually buy PC games."

Mr. Sundberg has a point. Those who are hacking and downloading it from outside sources won’t have to deal with the DRM. Those who bought the game with their hard earned money are the ones who are affected by this. If it’s a one person game why do I have to be online? I know I buy these games for my laptop when I’m on a road trip. I’m not going to have an internet connection going down the road but I want to play my games.(Stop looking at me like that, no I don’t want some stupid DS for the car)

Why should I be forced to have a constant internet connection to play these games? It’s not fair. I bought the game, I want to play. I can see making me be online to register the code for the disk. I’m ok with that. I am not ok with being forced to connect every time I want to play. What if my internet is down? What if I don’t have the money for an internet connection? I could still play games on my computer, but with DRM that effectively cuts my source of entertainment.

Screw you DRM people, screw you and your knee jerk reactions. Stop punishing those of us who don’t steal your games. I can see how you thought it would be a good idea, but you were wrong. I agree with Sundberg’s other thought as well, "I think piracy wouldn't be as much of an issue if there were better PC games out there. We could just scrap the whole concept of stupid DRM."
