Not just anyone can wear khaki shorts, a blue tank top, combat boots, and gun holsters and make them hot.  Well one woman can and her name is...

lara-croft-then-and-now.jpgLara Croft was created by Toby Gard in 1996 and breathed her first virtual breath behind closed doors at Eidos, in the gaming phenomenon that would become Tomb Raider.  In 2006 Lara made history by being given a star on the Walk of Game and dual wielded her way into the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful human video game heroine of all time.  She is also currently the third most iconic video game character after Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Not only is she fashionable but she IS fashion, having had all manner of merchandise made bearing her likeness. Wallets, pens, mugs, and even chocolate bars were all created to help “market” Miss Croft, as if she needed it.

Like a true diva she’s even appeared in magazines (cover girl for The Face magazine in 1997), appeared in music videos (music video by the German punk band Die Ärzte) and is rumored to have a new movie in the works (a prequel if you will) with a new actress at the helm.  No, “Ange aka Miss Jolie” will not be returning.

Lara’s virtual influence extends greatly, as we know personally of several women who owned a baby blue tank, khaki shorts and calf combat boots ONLY because Lara made them hot.  Even J-lo donned Lara-esque wear several times during her stint on the show In Living Color.  And even though Lara’s more than ample cleavage is attributed to a slip of the mouse, her almost comical breast proportions is part of what makes her famous.  We ain’t mad at ya Lara; you work with what your daddy gave ya. It truly takes a fashionista to rock a utility belt, and dusty combat boots and rock the world and for this let us all level the barrels of our virtual pistols in homage to Lara Croft, virtual fashion icon
