Snow White and I visited several shops that sell what's called avatar skins in Second Life to find just the right skin. This was after listening to Snow call me Old and busted for an hour.
It all starts with the skin in Second Life and skin designers are second only to clothing and hair designers in the god like fashion hierarchy in SL. Your skin should make a statement about who you are or who you're wanting to portray.
Perhaps you want to be half woman, half tiger...there's a skin for that. An asian, vegetarian vampire who likes blue eyeshadow and kitten eyes, well, there is probably a skin for that.
Because I love creating exotic looking characters that happen to possess some of my real life attributes, I tend to go for the female skins of color. Skins of color are some of the most highly coveted skins in Second Life as people of color come in so many different shades and it's difficult to mimic and even more difficult to find shades of virtual make-up that will compliment dark and still darker skin. This particular time we got lucky and I found one of the best (and cheaper) skin stores, called Atomic. Atomic sports skins of nearly every ethnicity you can think of and EVEN has skins with Haute Couture make up. A few skin stores offer contacts as a gift with purchase so your eyes and face really pop, and no girl should be without at least ONE pair of lashes, even in a virtual world. Atomic offers just this thing. Your 500 to 600 linden purchase (about 1.50 USD), gets you about 6 skins with varying shades of make up, freckles if you want them and yes, eyelashes and pretty contacts. And because we are trying real hard to keep it clean, we won't tell you about the skins that have the Brazilian wax effect.
So after visiting Atomic, I came out looking like the girl you see here? Still old and busted? According to Snow, yes. "What you need Gameinatrix, she said, Is new hair...."
