Snow's Place - Nostalgia Featured

Every gamer has those games that just make them smile. The ones they remember playing way back when; the feeling of first beating the game, or finally managing that near impossible feat on your way to beating the game. Can those feelings be relived?

I had a nostalgia kick the other day.I broke out the SNES and played me some Mario and Zelda. It almost felt like getting reacquainted with old friends. It had been so long I actually had to figure out the controls again, and even had forgotten some of the ‘secrets’ in each game.I’m not even sure I remember them all now.It has been years since I actually played the games.

That whole experience got me thinking, though. Is it possible to relive those warm and fuzzy feelings? You know the ones I’m talking about right?I’m talking about those feelings you get when you finally managed to beat that one bad guy… the one who kicked your @$$ every single time before.Try and tell me you didn’t do a victory dance when he finally died. Not even a little one?Or how about when you finally figured out that one thing that was annoying the crap out of you?Yeah. I bet you do remember those feelings.

I suppose I managed to get on this kick of playing old favorites when I was in a game store and preordered FFXIII for Xbox.It made me think back to playing my very first MMORPG: FFXI.I realized that nostalgic feeling wasn’t just reserved for old games. It could also have to do with old friends.I really wanted to go back to those times when I was so wrapped up in my linkshell Magitek. It was started by a few RL friends and then it grew to a ridiculous size. It was one of the best linkshell/guild groups I’ve ever been a part of.There was even someone in there I was considering possibly ‘marrying’ in game.

I began to wonder how, exactly, I managed to lose touch with even my RL friends. It could be because I’m not exactly the most communicative person, or maybe it’s just because we had nothing else in common but FFXI.Who knows? All I know is when I look back on old games or old friends like Mrcyevon, Vryali, Serendal, Shaitan and all of my old Magitek friends it makes me warm and fuzzy.I miss them and I miss the games.

Can someone go back to recapture that feeling?I don’t think so.But it sure is fun to think about. What if you could? What if you could go back to those games and have the people be the exact same or even ‘lose’ the knowledge of how to beat that difficult part just so you could figure it out again. The person that invents whatever potion or shot that does that will be one rich gamer.
