Now with six playable races, Dawn of War 2: Retribution promises to deliver all of the hero building options the series is known for. Also, for those inclined, Retribution adds a more classic style of RTS gameplay by letting commanders focus on pumping out multiple squads instead of building beefy heroes. Retribution also introduces a single player campaign that no longer focuses on just the Space Marines. Players can now choose any of the six playable races to embark on a quest to conquer or destroy Sub-Sector Aurelia.
The man cave has scoured the internet looking for bits of information about DOW2: Retribution. Below is a list of all the information we "know" about Retribution.

*Note: Some of this information may not reflect actual/final gameplay and is based upon video of gameplay that exists on the internet and what has been confirmed by THQ and Valve...ENJOY!*
What we think we know so far:
- The current launch date is March 1st for US/UK and March 4 for other locations.
- Pre-orders are $29.99. A Collector's Edition is $39.99
- There is a Beta. An official press release states that "owners of DoW2/CR will get the chance to try out the full set of Retribution's Steam features in a multiplayer beta that will take place in the new year."
- A new race: the Imperial Guard. The Guard are mere mortals fighting superhuman aliens, daemons and heretics that threaten the Imperium of Man. Individually weak, they make up for it in sheer numbers and armored support, giving them the well-earned title of "Fist of the Emperor".
- 6 unique single-player campaigns. You can play as any of the races in the Retribution campaign. These campaigns differ from DoW2/CR in that they allow you to requisition new units (instead of just controlling heroes). However, there is still level-progression, loot and RPG-elements. It is a meshing of traditional RTS and the campaigns found in the original DoW2.
- New "The Last Stand" updates
- New units for the existing races (see below):
- Space Marine Land Raider Redeemer. An incredibly large and powerful transport available in the latest stages of the game. The Redeemer variant is primarily anti-infantry and short-ranged but allows Space Marines to retreat back to it for safety and reinforcement. It is a slow and expensive behemoth.
- Ork Battlewagon. This cobbled-together monstrosity is a land battleship capable of blistering firepower and has the ability to transport Ork boyz into the thickest of battles. If the Orks don't want to kill you from a distance, they can also use it to simply run you over. Orks that are inside the Battlewagon can employ weaponry from the inside and also increase its speed.
- Tyranid Swarm Lord. The Swarm Lord is a special type of Hive Tyrant sent to battles that the Tyranid Hive Fleet is having difficulty in. It is cunning, brutal and merciless. Available in Tier 3, the Swarm Lord allows the Tyranid forces to perpetually move forward, as he is a mobile reinforce point and also increases the speed of all Tyranids around him. A melee powerhouse, the Swarm Lord also has abilities that drain the life from units around him and knock back his foes.
- Eldar Autarch. The Auturch is a unique Global Call-In unit available in T2. Preceding her arrival, a volley of grenades fall on enemy positions, softening them up and disrupting them. The Autarch then arrives as a commandable unit. She is a mobile sub-commander, able to jump over the battlefield and strengthen allied units. In addition, she can leave the field of battle at will, and come back later (dropping more grenades) for a reduced Global Resource cost. Able to hit-and-run at will, she is a dangerous foe.
- Chaos Noise Marines. Little information is known about Noise Marines, however, they have the ability to negate ranged weapons and ranged abilities by virtue of their attack. They also deal heavy damage to light buildings, such as Generators. In addition, their weapons can be changed to Blastmasters that are a form of artillery and knock down all units along the projectiles path. Presumably, they are a T1 unit that have a a T2 upgrade, but that is just speculation.
8. Games For Windows Live is gone. Steam is now handling matchmaking...etc.
9. DOW2/DOW2 Chaos Rising owners will not see the new units patched into the existing game
